In addition to the problem solving skills required for the coursework, students need to process information to develop qualitative and quantitative research skills useful in future careers, and develop those skills on a progressive, extended and thoughtful manner. Students complete 3 graduate classes studying the scientific writing process, writing skills, literature review, and presentation skills. These classes include writing systematic reviews, literature reviews, acceptable use of technology, and neurological assessment. He/she learns how to formulate cogent questions, think critically, evaluate published controlled research, and critically analyze meta-analyses.
The ideal situation is to have two advisors and three other resources (peers, mentors, or experienced W&N people) who would critique, mentor or corroborate what you have or are writing. At any stage in your proposal, you must submit it to these mentors. They will not allow you to submit your proposal unless it has been properly edited and you coulda shoulda coulda-but-shoulda it. So if you are initially unsure about the contents of your proposal or the angle of your research paper, it is better to seek feedback from mentors instead. They can give you advice on how to better the content, development and how to shape it into a stronger proposal in the future.
